About Next Step Studio & Gallery

Next Step Studio & Gallery is a ceramic studio and art gallery in Southeast Ferndale, MI, known for representing young and emerging artists. Ceramicist Kaiser Suidan owns and operates the space at 530 Hilton Rd. The ceramic studio opened in 2004, followed by the gallery in 2006. Its focus extends beyond group exhibitions: artists have also had opportunities to attend and show their work at national shows, including SOFA Chicago and NYC.

The gallery also serves as an event space under the name Next Space Ferndale. Visitors will find a wheelchair-accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible parking and an accessible restroom; there is no on-site restaurant. Customer feedback raises concerns about interactions with the owner, with repeated criticism of his manner toward customers and a separate complaint about telephone etiquette. Those service concerns sit alongside the gallery’s longstanding focus on giving emerging artists a wider audience.

— Hazel R, April 12, 2026 · google
“Owner is rude to customers and rude to the general public while out and about. All around bad dude.”
— Jeff Travis, March 3, 2026 · google
“When answering the phone state your business or establishment so we know we have the right number and maybe a “how are you”. Just a helpful tip when answering your customer calls.”
